A systematic introduction to metaphysics, the branch of philosophy concerned with providing a comprehensive account of the most general features of reality as a whole; or, as Aristotle put it, the study of being qua being. Of central importance is the study of ontology, which seeks to address the question of what general sorts of things exist: particulars, universals, propositions, numbers, minds. In addition, metaphysics seeks to answer questions about the nature of the objects posited in ontology. Are particulars just bundles of properties? Is causation merely regularity in events? How are the mind and the body related? Prerequisites: 3 hours of philosophy.
