History of graphic language and evolution of graphic communication. Includes an extensive examination of the social forces that shaped the design profession and how in turn design has shaped society. The theories that moved designers to act to remake society are also considered. Prerequisites: HIST 1110, 1120, 1320, or 1330 or any of the following: ANTH 1200, 1300, 1450; MUSC 1000; RELI 1000; THEA 1000; HP 1020, 1151; ARE 3030; and successful completion of WA.
