This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the Middle East, its geography, recent history, politics, and culture. The course will approach the region from both thematic and regional perspectives, including coverage of such topics as Islam, pan-Arabism, nationalism, the Gulf Wars, Israel and Arab-Israeli conflict, the Turkic world, the Gulf States, Iran, the Kurds, and American involvement in the region.
