Description:
This class will provide the students with a basic background in the six classes of nutrients and the role of each nutrient in food selection, weight loss, and weight maintenance. Basic diet planning principles will be discussed and students will analyze diets in accordance with such principles and propose dietary changes to improve nutritional status and needs throughtout the life span. Students will become better consumers as they are introduced to reading and interpreting labels, understanding labeling regulations, and evaluating nutritional claims made by food products and fad diets. Prerequisite: No reading improvement required. 3 lecture hours.
