This course presents an overview of worldwide prehistoric artistic archetypes through time and the relationship between hunter-gatherer and developing agricultural societies' survival strategies and artistic endeavors with a focus on Wind River Basin indigenous peoples. A required component of the class is field trips to prehistoric hunter-gatherer habitation, petroglyph, and pictorial sites. Field trips allow students to experience the habitats and evidence of ancient peoples in the area, thus increasing their understanding of the variety of artistic, anthropological, and sociological components of ancient peoples' art and lifestyles.
