The LPN IV-C Course is designed to provide fundamental knowledge, skills and abilities needed by the LPN to perform specified infusion therapy and phlebotomy procedures. Completion of this course meets the Wyoming State Board of Nursing content requirements for LPN IV certification. After successful completion of the course, students will receive a certificate of completion from the instructor and the designation of IV-C from the Wyoming State Board of Nursing. Eligibility for enrollment in this course requires that the student be either an LPN student meeting the co-requisite requirements or that they are a current, licensed LPN. Course Learning Objectives: .Legal considerations and risk management issues for LPNs in infusion therapy; .Related anatomy and physiology including fluid and electrolytes balance; .Principles of pharmacology as related to infusion therapy; .Infusion equipment and preparation; .Principles and procedures for administration of specified solutions and medications via intravenous route; * Principles and procedures for peripheral YAO and CVAD site maintenance; .Assessment of and appropriate interventions for complications related to infusion therapy; and .Demonstration and practice of specified infusion therapy procedures .Principles and procedures for phlebotomy. (note: This is online only. Not done in lab/clinical.) .Principles and procedures for the administration of total parenteral nulrili on. (note: This is online only. Not done in lab/clinical.) Prerequisite: LPN licensure or current student within LPN program. Co-requisites: NRST 2615 and NRST 2755 (24 hr lec, 10 hr lab, 2 clinical)
