In this course students are introduced to basic coding guidelines using the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10), and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Coding systems. Students practice the application of diagnosis and procedure codes, while focusing on the information found in the medical record. Students gain a fundamental understanding of the general steps applied in coding using ethical coding standards, May be taken concurrently with MEDC 1500 Medical Information Systems Certificate. This is available for students successfully completing the course who want to test for the industryrecognized credential.
