This course will focus on the essential skills and information that backpackers need to travel safely and comfortably in the wilderness. Topics include: adjusting/loading a backpack, equipment selection, layering, setting up shelters, reading a topography map, meal planning, stove use, water purification, and leave no trace principles. This course will involve lecture/discussions followed by a weekend overnight trip.
