Students will enhance their knowledge of the following nursing core components: professional behaviors, communication, assessment, clinical decision making, caring interventions, teaching and learning, collaboration, and managing care and interventions. Students apply the nursing process to the care of the individual with alterations in basic human needs and chronic illness throughout the lifespan. Students learn contemporary psychiatric and mental health nursing theories related to psychiatric disorders. Students explore various treatment modalities and apply the nursing process when contributing to the plan of care for the client with unmet psychosocial needs. Students begin to learn about how drug therapy is used to effectively treat patients so that health can be maintained and/or improved. Students will demonstrate competency in nursing interventions utilized in patient care in both clinical and laboratory settings. Students apply theory to the care of the individual through the beginning use of the nursing process, written care plans and by addressing basic human needs and core components: professional behaviors, communication, assessment, clinical decision making, caring interventions, teaching and learning, collaboration, and managing care. The student pays an additional lesson fee.
